Rental property, of course, is a valuable commodity. Families reside there, developing a home life and memories. Businesses often operate from a leased space relied upon to generate revenue and a customer base. Rental properties are investments for their owners who count on rent as income for themselves and as a means to cover costs including mortgage expenses. Eviction proceedings, as a result, often involve high and personal stakes to the participants.


I’ve seen these suits from both sides, as counsel for landlords seeking to evict and as counsel for tenants seeking to avoid an eviction. I know how to move the landlord’s case along so that the landlord can side-step meritless defenses designed only to delay the proceeding and regain possession of the property as soon as possible. Additionally, I have consulted with landlords about the terms of their leases, notices and other documents used in connection with their rental properties to ensure the landlords are adequately protected in the event of an eviction proceeding or other dispute with a tenant. I can also mount a defense to an eviction proceeding, and have obtained trial verdicts for tenants.


Landlord and tenant disputes are not limited to eviction proceedings. These parties sometimes fight over discrimination allegations or the meaning and effect of contract terms governing their relationship just like persons involved in real estate purchases have disputes about the terms of purchase agreements, deeds of trust and other contracts entered by them. I have prosecuted and defended these types of suits as well, obtaining favorable settlements or other resolutions on behalf of my clients.
